Skin Care Products: Facial Surgery

People who have determined that skin care products alone are not enough to help in the aging process or who believe that they have less than desirable skin features may opt for facial cosmetic surgery. Facial cosmetic surgery can consist of implants, a face lift, a forehead or brow lift, and rhinoplasty. Eyelid surgery, ear reshaping, lip augmentation, and neck lifts are also popular forms of facial cosmetic surgery many people elect to undergo each year.

The Types of Surgery

The types of surgery vary according to what the patient requests. Implants are generally used, for example, to enhance certain features such as the cheeks and jaw line. The implants can improve facial contours. Patients who are interested in this procedure should be in good physical and mental health, as the recovery is usually quick. Another popular form of surgery is the face lift. Many people choose to undergo a face lift to mitigate the aging process. This type of procedure is best done on people whose skin may be sagging but who still have some elasticity in their skin. This includes patients in their 40s and 70s. The face lift repositions muscle, skin, and fat beneath the face to add lift.

Chemical peels and laser peels are also beneficial in improving aging skin’s quality. Rhinoplastys, or nose jobs are also popular forms of facial surgery. The surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia. Depending on the shape desired the incision may be made at the base of the nose or within the nostril in order to reshape the cartilage in the nose. Other surgeries include ear pinning or neck lifts. With ear pinning, the ears are surgically pinned to the side of the patient’s head, which can be beneficial to people who are self conscious about their ears. Neck lifts involve taking the excess skin in the neck and lifting it or otherwise altering the neck muscles to give patients a younger look.

Surgery may be a popular option for cosmetic improvement, but it should only be performed on patients who are mentally and physically sound. Surgery should ideally be the last resort for the aging process and other facial features that preventative maintenance and skin care can not take care of.
